Due to the Corona pandemic, global supply bottlenecks, geopolitical crises (Russia/Ukraine), global trade conflicts, but also long-term disruptive developments through digitalization and ecological transformation, the economy is facing enormous challenges with many risks and opportunities.  In this context, how can the European model of prosperity and democracy be successfully maintained?

 

This event is open to the public and admission is free. No pre-registration necessary. No seat reservation possible. Requirement to wear masks during the event in the lecture room and in the broadcasting rooms.

Peter Altmaier

Former Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy

Peter Altmaier was a member of the German Bundestag for 27 years. From 2018 to 2021, he headed the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. Before that, Altmaier was head of the Federal Chancellery and Federal Minister for Special Tasks. He is one of the defining figures of the CDU, of which he has been a member since 1976, and is considered a close confidant of former Chancellor Angela Merkel. Peter Altmaier passed his first state law examination in 1985 and his second in 1988. In 1990, he was appointed to the European Commission in Brussels, where he served as Secretary General of the Administrative Commission until 1994. Altmaier has been a Knight of the French Legion of Honor since 2004 and Honorary President of Europa-Union Deutschland since 2011.
