General David Petraeus
Former Director of the CIA and General of the U.S. Army
Challenges in an uncertain world
The world’s present situation is characterised by unpredictability and risks. Europe faces huge economic and social challenges that also affect the continent’s security. It is still unclear what policy the United States under Donald Trump’s presidency will follow: A retreat into itself? Or continued guarantees and commitments to the world? In conclusion: What is the significance of the ‘Asian century’ for international society?
David Howell Petraeus, born in 1952, was the director of the CIA from 2011 to 2012 and before that an officer in the United State Army, lastly with the rank of four-star general. From 2002, Petraeus was deployed for several years in high-ranking positions in the Iraq War and the subsequent occupation of Iraq from 2003 to 2011. He was one of the top brains behind the reorientation of US forces towards counterinsurgency. Since May 2013, Petraeus has been working for Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. (KKR). There he is the chairman of the KKR Global Institute, which has the jobs of carrying out studies and analyses.
