Swiss Ambassadors to the United Kingdom
Die Schweizerische Europapolitik im Lichte des Brexit
(Swiss European policy in the light of Brexit)
The Brexit decision and its difficult implementation can only be understood in the light of British specificities. It is, therefore, necessary to identify the determinants of the Westminster system and to contrast them with the Swiss constitutional reality. On this basis, the question of what lessons can be learned for Swiss integration policy from the UK’s handling of the impending status as a Third European country can be investigated.
Alexandre Fasel, born in 1961, has been the Swiss Ambassador to the United Kingdom since September 2017. In this capacity, he is involved in the implementation of the Federal Council’s mind-the-gap strategy on Brexit. During his career, he focused on European integration, the interface between foreign and domestic policy, foreign policy analysis and policy creation, and multilateral diplomacy.
